What is Confirmation of Payee?
Confirmation of Payee (CoP) is a name checking service that helps prevent UK domestic payments being sent to the wrong account. It does this by making sure the account details provided match the actual account name when setting up a new payee.
There are four possible outcomes that will be displayed to the sender:
- Match. The name and account type match the account details provided.
- Partial match. The name provided is a close match to the name on the account.
- No match. The name provided doesn’t match the name on the account.
- Unavailable. It has not been possible to check the name.
