How does Confirmation of Payee work in the app?

In the app, Confirmation of Payee (CoP) checks are run automatically whenever you set up a new payee. When you input the payee's details, we will check that the name of the account matches the name you have provided.

You could get any of the below responses:

  • Match. The name and account type match the account details provided.
  • Partial match. The name provided is a close match to the name on the account.
  • No match. The name provided doesn’t match the name on the account.
  • Unavailable. It has not been possible to check the name.

For a partial match, you will be able to go back and either edit your payee’s details, accept the recommended suggestion, or use the partially matched details.

In the case of no match, you will be able to go back and either edit your payee’s details, or use the unmatched details. If you use the unmatched details, you carry the risk of funds being sent to the wrong account.

If CoP is unavailable, such as when there is a system outage, you will have to try setting up your payee again later.
