How does Confirmation of Payee work in the app?

In the app, Confirmation of Payee (CoP) checks are run automatically whenever you set up a new payee. When you input the payee's details, we check them against the records held by the payee's bank.

You could get any of the below results:

  • Match. The details you provided match the payee's account.
  • Close match. The details are close, but not quite right‍—‌we'll show you a suggested correction.
  • No match. The details don't match, or the account couldn't be checked.

For a close match, you can choose to continue with the details you entered or go back and edit your payee's details to try and get a Match.

For a no match, you can choose to continue with the details you entered or go back and edit your payee's details to try and get a Match. If you continue with unmatched details, you carry the risk of funds being sent to the wrong account.

Occasionally a check can't be run at all‍—‌for example, during a system outage at the payee's bank. If that happens, try setting up your payee again later.

Some accounts are note made available for CoP. In those cases, we recommend you double-check the account information with the receiving party.
